Abstract Previous work, as presented within the paper, introduces Sonic Interaction Design along with work focusing on the perception of sound and future soundscapes. The work presented here aimed to develop the Sound Forest further by retrieving, editing and implementing present and future soundscapes of selected environments. This was done with the goal to facilitate reflection regarding climate change. In addition, an evaluation was conducted in which five participants listened to the soundscapes along with interacted with the Sound Forest. The evaluation used the method Constrained Verbalization along with open-ended questions collected through a digital questionnaire. The data was analyzed by reviewing and tabulating the frequency of reported words along with summarizing the responses of the open-ended questions.
The results indicate, among others, that multiple words were repeated among participants to describe the different soundscapes. However, on occasion, certain words stood out. In addition, the results of the open-ended questions revealed that the participants had varying ideas of what the underlying message of the soundscapes were. Some of these ideas indirectly validated that the project group’s goal with the interaction had been communicated.
