Abstract Visualizing data is an effective way to both catch the attention of a viewer and thus convey information to them. In this study, data was instead sonified in order to analyze the effectiveness of sound as an information-carrier and to see what sounds represented which kind of information. A sonification of deaths and vaccinations in accordance to COVID-19 was created and tested on several people who were instructed to identify the mapping of the sound and to try to distinguish between different scenarios of data. Although effective in conveying the information, the sonification was generally described as unpleasant to listen to.
