Project by Marie Guldevall and Carl Leandersson
Abstract The pandemic in 2020 and 2021 changed the soundscape across the world as different restrictions were introduced to prevent the spreading of the Covid-19 virus. Many places that used to be lively and vibrant fell into silence as restaurants, bars, amusement parks and night clubs were forced to close. This project aimed to create an interactive experience and bring back some of the sounds missed due to the pandemic restrictions and bring forward some sounds that we hope to hear more of in the future. A ‘today’ and ‘tomorrow’’ soundscape was created of three different places in Stockholm. The ‘today’ soundscapes are recordings of what the selected places sound like today, while the ‘tomorrow’ soundscapes were created using sounds recorded and/or created by the authors. Using a map of Stockholm and QR-codes, it was made possible to interact with the different soundscapes. An evaluation was made, indicating that most participants categorized the ‘tomorrow’ soundscape as more positive than the ‘today’ soundscape.
