DT2300 - 2021: Sonification of human effects on the environment
From Roberto Bresin
Project by Måns Nyman and Olivia Stigeborn
Abstract The climate crisis is an important question in today’s society. Some climate calculators exist that visually show your total climate footprint but as individuals it can be hard to understand how much of a difference a specific climate action makes. This project aims to show an alternative way to display people’s climate footprint by taking emphasis on the climate action a person can perform and how much this will affect the environment. An interactive sonification was created that shows the sound of a future city depending on what climate actions you choose to act on. Each parameter can be continuously updated to see the effect of that climate action. A comparative study with WWF’s Climate Calculator was performed that showed great potential in the new soundscape program. The results were easier to understand and quicker to get to. A possible mprovement could be to add more questions and possible climate actions to show a bigger picture of a person’s climate footprint.
