Abstract This is a course project of Sound in Interaction at KTH, Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm. The project is aimed to provide mapping user interactions on one of the strings used in the Sound Forest installation at Scenkonstmuseet, the Swedish Museum of Performing Arts in Stockholm to synthesized sonic output. The mapping of the interaction is created through analyzing various playing styles of the string with parameters of sound level, rhythm, timing regularity, and sound level regularity. Neutral, Mild, Mysterious, and Windy sound states are synthesized in order to reflect the different playing styles by setting different ambiances for each case. Max 7 is used to implement the analysis software and sound synthesis. It is intended that the users get better opportunity to explore and control on the string by being able to change the the sound compared to the previous works. Improving the sound synthesis and providing visual feedback would be a future work for the project.
